You can post these to your loved ones to share the news. Slideshow reveal: One couple eloped in Squamish while on vacation. When they returned to Australia, they hosted a casual “trip slideshow” night. Halfway through: boom - wedding photos appeared. Their mother’s first words were “why are you wearing suits while hiking?” Then it clicked! Movie night: Instead of photos, gather everyone and play your elopement film. Let the reveal happen in real time. An event-based reveal: Invite your favorite people over, and let them know there! You can tell them it is an engagement party, or find another reason to get them together. I even had a couple answer the door to their guests while wearing their bridal attire, and that was the reveal! Video call: A few of my couples have called their loved ones after their ceremony, wearing their bridal attire. Emily and Riley chose Leah Kathryn Photography, one of my favorite local photographers. Leah has a gift for capturing both the sweeping landscapes and those quiet, emotional moments. She also has it dialed in when it comes to getting the must-have photos - the ones that will hang on your wall for the decades to come. Their bouquet and boutonniere came from The Wild Florists, run by two Squamish legends, Catherine and Anita, who grow all their blooms locally in the valley. I adored the long ribbon detail! To make sure guests arrived safely and on time, The Shred Shuttle handled transportation, and after their ceremony, everyone headed to Sunwolf BC for a cozy dinner at Fergie’s Café, with family and friends staying overnight in the riverside cabins. It was the perfect mix of celebration and relaxation. How to have a ‘first look’ when you elope If Emily were an emoji, she’d be the yellow heart: bright, warm, and full of sunshine. I was so curious to see her wedding outfit! We had a plan to ensure she could arrive in comfort, and change on site for the first look moment. She arrived at the trailhead in a chic white pant-and-blouse set with feathered sleeves (so fun!) and once we reached the ceremony site, I set up my pop-up change tent so she could slip into her wedding gown - I’d never seen a dress like it! I saw this, then kicked my own shoes off, too! It was the only time I’ve married a couple without shoes on, and it was so grounding and perfect. This gorgeous couple wanted to start their ceremony with intention, so we took a few grounding breaths together – a simple moment to arrive fully in the experience. It was deeply personal and perfectly suited to who they are as a couple. After their vows came a champagne toast, family photos, and portraits that captured the light and love of the day. Tip: We didn’t have a formal wedding rehearsal, considering there was no bridal party or complex elements to the ceremony. Instead, we had a video call before their ceremony to talk through the flow more casually. Elopement vs. Micro-Wedding: What’s the Difference? “What’s the difference between an elopement and a micro-wedding?” To me, there are two main factors: guest count and logistics. Here’s how I see it: Elopement: Typically includes just the couple (and maybe a handful of loved ones). It’s simple, intentional, and usually involves fewer vendors - think adventurous mountain-top ceremonies or quiet forest clearings. Micro-Wedding: A slightly larger celebration (often 10–40 guests) that requires a bit more planning — transportation, dinner reservations, florals, and photography. Traditionally, one partner waits at the front while the other walks down the aisle - but that script was written for a very specific kind of couple…. You get to write your own! Here are some ideas: Two separate entrances: You each get your own moment. Decide who goes first. You can either each have your own song, or walk within the same one. Walk with chosen family: The person who walks you down the aisle should be someone who truly celebrates and supports you - not just someone you feel obligated to include. (I once had a spouse have their bio-dad walk them to the top of the aisle, then pass them on to their chosen-family member to continue the walk - you can really chose what feels right to you). Walk in together: Enter from either side, meet halfway at the top of the aisle, then take those final steps side by side - symbolically entering your marriage as equals. Make it YOU: Okay I’m sure I sound like a broken record by saying ‘make it you’ all the time - but hey, I’m passionate… All to say, choose music that actually feels like you - if that’s an instrumental version of Born This Way, then hell yeah. Well, that’s where each script tends to look the most different. Often, it’s a fun re-telling of a couple’s love story - but it could include a reading delivered by someone special, a re-telling of a funny memory that totally encapsulates the couple, or perhaps rituals (I most commonly perform a handfasting ritual).
